65% of lesbian, gay and transgender teenagers bullied in secondary schools. 40% of those have attempted suicide. Over 10% have been sexually assaulted, threatened with weapons or suffered death threats. Only 6% of schools in Wales have specific anti-homophobic bullying guidance. (Stonewall)
LGBT teenagers are suffering in silence. They feel they cannot turn to anyone. They have no voice. They feel alone.
Last year we asked the Labour led Welsh Assembly Government to help. They promised action, but did nothing at all.
We say no more.
What do we want?
We are asking the Assembly Government to pass a motion that will help the many LGBT teenagers who have been left without hope for so long.
We call on the Assembly to pass a motion implementing compulsory homophobic bullying guidance in all schools, whether faith, state or public. We also call on them to ensure that this guidance is set up after consultation with Stonewall, teacher and head teacher unions and students themselves.
Will this work?
Yes! In instances where there has been clear anti-homophobic bullying guidance, the rates of homophobic bullying fell by 60%.
What’s in it for me?
Happier schools. A fair, free society. Everyone knows someone who has been bullied for being gay. Imagine having the chance to stop the pain they experienced. You can make a difference, if you support our campaign. You can stop the hate.
How can I help?
